Harbor:Trauma

  • Trauma Care at Harbor-UCLA
    • Trauma Team Roles (Dr. Putnam, 10-2026)
    • Procedures (chest tube/central line) based on MRN: Even=ED, Odd=trauma
      • Recognizing the idiosyncratic longitudinal management of chest tubes, an individual trauma surgeon may want to supervise the ED resident's insertion of the chest tube
      • Likewise, in a critical patient, the ED attending may supervise a trauma resident's insertion of a central line
  • Trauma Upgrades
    • Trauma Activation Criteria (11-2025)
    • If the patient meets TTA 1 or 2 criteria, please have the clerk page out as such, not simply as a trauma consult. The level of activation determines the time response by the trauma team.
  • Trauma Consults - reminder for admit/transfer patients
    • For presentations such as ground level falls, syncope, etc., if there is no evidence of “traumatic injury”, no consult is required prior to admission/transfer
    • If you find a minor injury on your workup, concurrently consult Trauma and proceed with admission to the appropriate service (Medicine).
      • Minor Injury is intentionally vaguely defined - use your discretion (small laceration, contusion, small fracture not requiring intervention)
    • For any patients with a significant injury, Trauma should have right of refusal for the admission
